Johnson has worked with editors and art directors of a number of national publishers over the years, including North Light Books, Sierra Club, and Viking Penguin, and creates illustrations in a variety of mediums. She has written 34 books on art, history, and natural history subjects.
She has written for a number of magazines, including Country Living, The Artist's Magazine, Watercolor Magic, where she provided art tips, and freelance pieces for many others (see Biography.) She owns and operates Graphics/Fine Arts Press, which publishes books of interest to history buffs and interpreters. In that field, she is most often known as Kate Johnson, a name that stuck when she got into the hobby of historical reenacting 15 years ago.
She sells on eBay, with an I.D. dedicated to fine arts -- original drawings, paintings, collages, photomontages and prints -- check cathyjohnsonart. Her original eBay I.D., katestreasures, is still in use for everything else -- an eclectic mix of her own handmade jewelry, books, art CDs and antiques is her chosen field, with an occasional foray into collectibles and other offerings.
